The method

Assess important knowledge. Start with the evidence already available.

ArtiProof begins with a bounded piece of important work, identifies the knowledge it depends on, reuses existing evidence where possible and asks whether the knowledge is fit to be relied upon for the intended use and consequence.

Practical review role

A lightweight, structured peer review of organisational knowledge.

ArtiProof helps review a specific piece of work: what knowledge does it depend on, what evidence supports that knowledge and is it sufficient for the intended use? The review has four possible outcomes.

  • Confirm — the evidence supports relying on the knowledge within the agreed scope.
  • Qualify — the knowledge can be relied on, subject to clear conditions or limitations.
  • Challenge — a significant weakness calls that reliance into question.
  • Insufficient evidence — there is too little support to reach a sound conclusion.

ArtiProof builds on established practices of peer review and gathering evidence. We are investigating whether this approach helps assess organisational knowledge when AI is part of the work: can others follow the reasoning, reach similar conclusions and obtain benefits that justify the effort?

Knowledge types

Source, Craft and Generated Knowledge are role-relative functional categories, not three isolated repositories.

Assurance properties

Assess Integrity, Provenance, Authority, Understandability and Resilience separately. Strength in one property does not cancel out a significant weakness in another.

Evidence

Use enough evidence for the judgement you need to make: Minimum Sufficient Evidence. Start with what the organisation already has.

Evidence approach

Context & consequence

Assurance depth depends on foreseeable consequence, uncertainty, dependency and the difficulty of recovery.

Fitness for reliance

The conclusion is a reasoned judgement, not a mechanical average of five property scores.

Continuity & recovery

Resilience is evidenced by capability to preserve, transfer or recover knowledge when circumstances change.

Build on authoritative evidence. Respect specialist boundaries.

Reuse a usable authoritative external test or assessment rather than repeating its conformity checks. Preserve its source and version, and record why a substitute assessment is needed when the existing result cannot be used. ArtiProof then reviews fitness for reliance in the intended organisational context.

Where a material question requires competent legal, fundamental-rights or specialist technical assessment, identify the boundary and preserve the question and evidence. Reuse the authoritative specialist result if available; otherwise stop, qualify or refer, rather than give an unqualified specialist-domain confirmation.

When an authorised override exists, keep the original result and the result relied upon separately traceable, including the authority and rationale for the change.
